Just some pics

I have yet to perfect typing with one hand- Kaitlyn loves to be held, and I just can't resist. So, here are a couple pics, and we'll leave it at that for today.

Eva's a very helpful big sister

I love her enthusiasm

Oh, and have you tried McDonald's $1.39 Iced Coffees yet? They aren't half bad.

Angels and everyday heros

Did you hear about this on the news? We saw the whole thing go down (literally) from about 10 pews back. It was insane. God really did send angels, because we watched it all in what seemed like slow-motion, and were sure some people weren't going to make it. But, God is good. And there were mostly only minor injuries.

In house news- remember Eva's bed frame that wouldn't fit up the stairs? Well, when you're married to Nich, there is a solution to every problem. If it won't fit up the stairs...

I need coffee
I thought it would be only fair to set the record straight. Every single day is not all roses around here. In fact, it is only 10:42am, and it is turning out to be one of those days.

I have already been covered in explosive, green poo- not once, but twice. I have also been peed on, and so has my couch. My cat puked in the middle of the carpeted hallway. My toddler has tantrumed more times than I can count, and is in her room screaming right now. For no apparent reason. I nursed almost non-stop last night (meaning no sleep), and this morning, because I think munchkin is going through a growth-spurt. She is always hungry, never satisfied, and crying almost as much as her older sister.

So, there ya have it. We have good days around here, and bad ones too. Just to even it all out.

My two girls
Kaitlyn is 2 weeks old today- I can't believe it. I just want to pause time for awhile, so I can enjoy her baby-ness.I am really enjoying being a Mommy to two great girls. And I wish life would slow down a bit, so I can savour these Mommy moments more.

Before we had Baby #2, I was hearing lots of rumours about how adding a second kid to the family is more than twice the work. So, of course, I was quite nervous- and anticipating being overtired and overworked the first few months. But, it turns out, it's just not true. Sure, I've got more laundry to do, I get a little less sleep, and sometimes I have to potty Eva while I am nursing Kaitlyn (slightly awkward). But, more than twice the work? No way.

In fact, look what I got to enjoy the girls doing, while I got some housework done yesterday.

Yes, life is real good.

Moved in
We're in our new house. Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!! (That was a squeal of delight) And, we wouldn't have been able to do it without the crazy amount of help from our amazing friends and family. Seriously, our people rock. They cleaned, they moved, they unpacked, they cleaned some more...I am in debt to them forever. They made this move as easy as it possibly could have been.

In Eva news- she loves her new room. And her new big girl bed. Of course the reason she loves her big girl bed so much, is because of the beautiful Pottery Barn bedding. Oh, and so far, she is just sleeping on the mattress on the floor because her bed frame won't fit up the stairs. More on that next post.

In baby news- Kaitlyn is an amazing sleeper. At least, so far. I'm afraid as soon as I write this, that it will stop completely. But, for the last 3 nights in a row, she has only woken up once around 3am to eat. And then goes back to sleep a 1/2 hour later. This is amazing. I wake up feeling well-rested. I hope this lasts forever.

Annnd, let's wrap it up with a baby pic..

Kaitlyn's arrival story
At the beginning of the week, my Doctor informed me that my original due date was the one we were going with (April 3rd), and that he considered me a week overdue. So, starting Tuesday, I went in every morning for a "stretch" to try to get things moving along as naturally as possible. I had been in pre-labour/early labour off and on for the week prior, and was getting more and more exhausted. I would have timeable, intense contractions for a few hours, then they would just stop. It was as if my body was ready for labour, but Baby Bean just wasn't.

On my Thursday morning appointment (after a miraculous good nights sleep), with light contractions 6-7 minutes apart, my Doctor finally said enough was enough, and wanted to kickstart me into active labour. So, off to the hospital we went at 1:00 to break my water.

Within an hour, I was having contractions 2-3 minutes apart- I kept walking the halls of the hospital to speed it up more and more, because they were threatening to give me oxytocin if things didn't move fast enough. And I was adamant- no drugs. So, Nich, Jennifer and I walked and walked until around 4:00. The contractions were finally getting intense enough that I needed to start using the shower and the birthing ball to help me through them. At 5:00, the nurse checked me, and I was at 6 1/2 cms.

Around 5:30, I went into transition- the longest transition ever. I was shaking, sweating, and nauseous, and the contractions were SO strong. Every contraction was different, and I had to do something new each time just to make it through them. Sometimes it helped to just "get mad" and scream my way through them (so much for hypnobirthing!), sometimes the birthing ball would help, sometimes counter-pressure would help, but most of all, my two incredible coaches with their words of encouragement got me through.

Around 6:30 or so (not like i was really looking at the clock) I just couldn't get a break from the contractions. They just kept coming, one after another. They would peak, die down a bit, but then the next one would come before it went away. At this point, I'm sure I said a million times that I just didn't want to do this anymore. But, I still didn't want drugs- because I knew one of the signs of being almost to the pushing stage, is wanting to check out and go home- so I knew I was almost done.

Maybe around 6:45 or 7pm, the nurse asked if she could pray over us- and of course we said yes. As soon as she prayed, I was filled with peace, and even though I still felt pain- I was relaxed. She should've prayed sooner!

Then, the peak of one of the next contractions was so intense, I shot out of bed, stood up and announced that I had to "push something out". The nurse checked, and I was 9 1/2, and she called my Doctor. I wanted to see my Doctor so bad, I think I mumbled over and over at that point that I just wanted to see Doctor Hansen. Because I knew as soon as I saw him, I could push my baby out and it would all be over.

He was there before I knew it, and after twenty minutes of pushing, our little Kaitlyn Brianna was born. After she was all checked over, and everything calmed down- our Doctor prayed over us.

I can't even begin to tell you how much God's presence was there on Kaitlyn's birth day. I prayed so often that this would be a joyful and healing birth experience. And it so was, and God gets all the glory for that. He really showed up. And totally used Nich, Jennifer, my Nurse and Doctor in such amazing ways. I can't even begin to describe to you how incredibly blessed I feel. And, of course, the biggest blessing of all is the perfect baby girl we got out of the deal. God is good.

Some thoughts
Wow, I can't believe we're moving in 1 1/2 weeks, and we still have to have a baby.... Crazy days! I have come to the conclusion that I will be in pre-labour the rest of my life. I am at peace with this- I don't wake up insanely grumpy that I am still pregnant anymore. In fact- I am even getting some sleep at night now. I just ignore all the annoying contractions. They come, and they go. It used to be obnoxious. But, now I just try my best to ignore them. Besides, its getting better. Last Monday they were 10 minutes apart...and now when they come they are more like 6 minutes apart. So, maybe just maybe we are getting somewhere? Maybe.

Eva seems so grown up to me lately. Doesn't she look very un-babyish in this picture? Good thing I have another baby coming!

Sigh. They grow up so stinkin fast.

39.5 weeks
The Doctor's appointment went well yesterday. I opted not to have the stretchy stretchy done. I really want to trust God's timing with this little one. And since I'm not even overdue yet, I didn't really see the point. Oh- other than to put me out of my pre-labour misery I have been in all week. But, since Baby Bean appears not to be ready yet- we shall wait...

I am lucky to have so many friends, like Danielle, that are talented photographers. I just love this series of pictures taken of Eva.

And to wrap up this uber-short blog post. A quick note to the Baby.

Dear Bean,

I don't have any stretch marks yet.

I would like to keep it that way.

You can come out now.

-Your mom

39 weeks
I had my 39 week Dr appointment this morning, and got some fantastic news. The baby is in the process of rotating, and is no longer posterior! Woot woot.

Yesterday I had painful contractions, 10 minutes apart, all day long. Accompanied by the worst backache ever. They stopped last night (bummer!), but now I'm convinced their whole purpose was to flip Baby Bean around. So, the day of pain was not in vain. Ha, i'm rhyming. I'm in such a good mood! The sunshine is even out!!

What else is new? I have another appointment on Friday- the Dr. wants to "stretch" me to get things moving if they don't happen by then. We're trying to get this baby out while it's still on the small-ish side, to make delivery as easy as possible. I want the most natural birth possible, so I still want to look into this stretching business. I haven't heard of it before. Anyone else experienced this?

Well, I have the nesting urge. I need to go clean some more. I even broke out the Q-tips to deep clean our ensuite bathroom this morning. I'll leave you with a belly shot..
