Christmas in Terrace
Since I was so wordy in my last post, I'll now make up for it with on overdose of Christmas pictures.

I tried to get a cute sister picture...but Kaitlyn kept pulling Eva's hair. Check out her beautiful Chistmas outfit though! Borrowed from her cousin Liliana.

Kaitlyn decided to be a bit shy for Great Opa.

But really warmed up to Opa while we were there.

It was a wonderful Christmas holiday, Eva is still asking to go back. She has been saying "Let's go to Terrace, and see Grannie. Where's Grannie?" So cute.

Oh, and another cute thing Eva said today? At the Starbucks drive-through window today, the Barista asked what Eva got for Christmas. She replied "Jesus for Christmas".

I love that girl.

Our Christmas Eve
At 2:20pm yesterday, Nich saw that seats became available on the 5:15pm Christmas Eve flight to Terrace. He called Air Canada straight-away, and waited for 20 minutes on hold, when we decided we should be travelling to the airport while we waited on hold. So we woke the kids from their naps, strapped them in the back of a borrowed 4x4 truck, quickly threw our luggage together and trekked off through the snow.

We were minutes away from arriving to the airport when I finally got a ticket agent on the phone (yep, on hold for almost one hour)- she booked us on the flight and told us we had to get the check-in ASAP- which I thought would be no problem.

Buuut, then we got lost. The we almost froze to death (while our luggage was getting soaked, sitting in the snow) while we waited for a shuttle. Eva started crying, because shuttle after shuttle came with no room for us. I started crying. This wasn't turning into a very merry Christmas Eve.

Forty-five freezing minutes later, a shuttle finally came with room for us, and dropped us at the airport 20 minutes before our flight left. And if you've watched the news, you've heard about the crazy lines, and the hundreds of stranded people. I frantically went in search of an Air Canada employee and waved one down.

Within minutes, our bags and car seats were checked, and we ran through security. By this time we had 5 minutes....before the plane left the gate. You know, so boarding would've ended by then. We were praying for a delay.

We ran and ran until Eva's little legs couldn't run anymore. So, with Kaitlyn in one arm, and Eva in the other, Nich took off jogging with me trailing behind. I will never forget the scene in front of me, both the girls bopping up and down, laughing hysterically, as he ran. It was quite the sight, and gave everyone a good laugh as we flew through the terminal.

Finally we got to our gate, and they announced a 10-minute delay. Perfect! We were ushered right on and the plane left on its way.... across the runway to sit in a line to de-ice the plane. One tantruming toddler and two diarrhea diapers later, we finally "blasted off" -as Eva likes to call it. I was envisioning a sleeping baby, and a toddler engulfed in Dora during the flight. But instead, after finding out the dvd player was broken, I got an unhappy, fidgety, starving (airplane pretzels for dinner) toddler and a wide-awake baby (who dumped her bag of Cheerios all over our seats, not once but twice).

Sigh. I was exhausted.

We finally got into Terrace, and it was such a relief and a joy to be there with family. We got our bags, and just needed the car seats. But, they never came. Apparently, they never left Vancouver.

So, Nich created a make-shift booster seat out of a trumpet case, for Eva. And, I was adamant that Kaitlyn needed a proper car seat, so a very sweet Air Canada employee offered to drive us home, so we could use her infant seat. I love small towns.

So, at 10pm, we finally arrived. Overtired and starved, but happy to be "home". The kids gleefully went straight to bed without a peep. And we cozied up on the couch, nibbled delicious Christmas treats, played games, and visited with family we were so looking forward to seeing.

It's going to be a very merry Christmas after all.

The weather outside is frightful
So, remember how I mentioned we were heading to Terrace? Well, Monday morning, we woke up early, finished packing, ate breakfast, and we were just wrapping it all up when I had the brilliant idea to confirm our flight status online. So, I turned on the computer, waited forever for it to start, typed in our flight number...and right across the screen, in big red letters:

Flight Cancelled

What? They can do that? I've travelled a lot, and experienced way over my fair share of annyoing delays- but a completely cancelled flight? Never experienced.

I figured they would get us on one of the next flights...nope. After trying to get through to Air Canada for about 45 minutes, they informed me the next flight would be at 7:50am Christmas morning.

And the kicker? It's supposed to dump snow again all day Christmas Eve, into the night- which is exactly what cancelled our flight last time. So, we're just hoping now and praying like crazy that we get to get on that plane.

*Pause for a quick blog prayer*

God, all we want for Christmas is to go see family in Terrace .
Amen

*Unpause*

But, the delay hasn't been all bad. At least we aren't stuck in the airport like hundreds of others are. And we get to play in the pretty snow- which Eva quite enjoyed.

There is so much of it! Eva's slide is buried.

And Eva got to have a play date with her best friends...

And Kaitlyn got to pretend to sip her very first Gingersnap latte.

We're heading out Christmas Eve to stay at an airport hotel, and will get up early Christmas morning to (hopefully) get on a plane, leave this crazy, snowy mess behind, and fly to Terrace for Christmas.

Hope your travel plans work out, and you all have a wonderful, family-filled, joyous Christmas.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

And, it's still snowing. Which is lovely and beautiful and Christmas-y, but I don't drive in this weather, and I'm totally out of sticky tape, and am resorting to wrapping presents with packing tape. But, it's still pretty to look at.

In other December news...the kids went and sat on Santa's lap...or really close to his lap anyways. Eva was pretty scared, which I assume most 3-year olds are. She also told him (or whispered to me to tell him) that she wants a bicycle for Christmas. Which has me pretty confused since we got her one for her birthday last week.

Annd, I'll sign off for now by wishing all you wonderful blogging ladies out there, and my friends and family that read this blog, a very Merry Christmas! I probably won't be posting for awhile since I have lots of work to wrap up, parties to attend, and packing to do before leaving for Terrace in a few days.

Have a wonderful holiday.

She got a Hippo
My little girl has a couple new heroes in her life: Uncle Brandon and his girlfriend, Roxanne brought her a huge hippopotamus for her birthday.

She is beyond thrilled.

27

For my birthday, I have treated myself to a warm house. Nich is very, um, frugal, and likes to keep the heater just a notch above the temperature where we would freeze to death. So, today, unbenkownst to him (he's at work), I have cranked up the heat, and am celebrating the warmth in my new Esprit t-shirt.

It's been a wonderful birthday so far. Peaceful, but wonderful. It's a no-chore day (unless you count the load of wash I'm doing- I love clean sheets, so I'm going to make the bed perfectly as another present to myself. yes. I give presents to myself. don't you?) so I've been playing gleefully with my girls. And it's been way too much fun. Why don't I do this everyday?

I set up a Lambchop puppet show for them (I was Lambchop, they were the audience) and we played 'Lambchop says' (you know, instead of 'Simon Says')and other games. We played Legos, and chase Pinkie Pie Pony. We had our daily morning dance party, to her new favourite song, 'Pollywog in a Bog', by the Barenaked Ladies. We ate cupcakes for lunch, with a side of cheese. And Nich brought me a Starbucks Mocha, a Lowfat Fruit bar, and he dropped off a HUGE birthday gift basket (the size of Eva) from our wonderful boss, full of lots of yummy goodies.

Annd, in a couple hours I am going to get my hair done- another present to myself (gifts are my love language, k?). And then, my better half is taking me out to a nice dinner.

Does it get any better?

Oh, but it does. All you wonderful friends and family have made my day by wishing me Happy Birthday on Facebook. Thanks for your birthday wishes, and for making a girl feel special. You're the best.

Eva

Three years ago, at this exact time (8:31pm), I was nervously sitting at the Hospital, with contractions 4-5 minutes apart, waiting to see if they were going to admit me. Around 9pm, the nurses admitted me, and the adventure began. It was the longest night I've ever experienced, but you were so very worth it. You arrived around noon, the next day. And believe it or not, no one looked at the clock when you were born, so we don't know the time for sure- somewhere around 12:20-12:30. You were whisked off right away, so the Doctor could get you breathing and all (the cord was wrapped around you neck twice), and you quickly let out a healthy scream...which was wonderful to hear. Before long, you were swaddled up, and handed off to your clueless parents.

I remember the first night at the hospital, your Daddy was holding you- your eyes were closed, you body was limp, and I couldn't hear if you were breathing. We started freaking out, and your Daddy ran you all the way to the nurses station to see if you were still alive.

The nurses laughed.

And informed us that you were just soundly sleeping "like a baby".

Sometimes I feel bad that you are the first kid, and we have to learn this parenting gig with you as our guinea pig. But, Eva, you are such a sport, and you are so resilient, I know you're going to make out just fine.

Over these last three years, I can't believe how much you've grown, and how much you've learned. You have been able to sing your ABC's for almost a year, you can name all the letters, and you sing more songs than I can. And you are so hilarious. Just last night, we told you to wrap up your bath-time, and you announced:

"I'm not done." Then, looking at me square in the eye, with a smile, you challenged: "What do you think about that?"

I was so flabbergasted I just laughed. You always catch me off guard. You always make me smile. And you listen well too. When I told you that you were cute, but it was time to go to bed, you complied.

You are a great big sister. Just these last couple weeks, you started asking me if you can play with Kaitlyn. I happily set you girls up with some toys, and you play happily while I do some chores. Your favourite activity with Kaitlyn is playing Duplo blocks. You build high towers, while she watches in amazement. You two are so precious.

Eva, you are growing into such an amazing little girl. A wonderful daughter, that keeps us on our toes. A loving big sister that always showers Kaitlyn with hugs. A fun cousin and friend, that plays and shares. We are so proud of you.

Happy Birthday.

Thanksgiving
Crisis averted, with a little hunting I've found all my pictures again.

So, anyways, I know I'm late and Thanksgiving was so last week...but for memories sake, some Turkey Day photos!

This year, we have a lot to be thankful for. It has been one of the hardest, but most rewarding years yet (I'm hoping next year will be more boring though). We are thankful for two new, healthy babies in the family, and we are uber thankul that Nate is home safe and sound from Afghanistan. We are thankful for friends and family. And what I am most thankful for, is that through all the challenges this year has thrown us, my little family grew stronger. I love my little family.

Ok, and now, some Thanksgiving pictures...

Eva enjoyed hanging out with her Auntie Crystal, as did I. I haven't got to see her much in the past few years...from Korea to L.A., she hasn't been around this part of the world much. But, hopefully....she'll stay nearby for awhile? :)
Kaitlyn and Ethan "played" together with the baby toys at Great Grandma's house.

My brother and Christi live in a beautiful neighbourhood, right by the water. We went for a nice little stroll, and Eva and Aaron played "I'm going to get you".
Yummmm, the turkey.

I like Nate's expression in this one...

Story time with Papa Ralph..

This kid knows how to laugh, I like this close-up...

Kaitlyn in her Turkey Day bib we got from Auntie Jen.

Story-time with Great Grandma..

And that's a wrap on our lovely weekend down south. It was great celebrating Nate's homecoming, and chowing down on some delicious grub.

So, what's new around here? We're trying to have a credit-free Christmas, paying for presents and the such sans the tempting credit card. So, I've cut all corners of our budget, including the grocery budget, and have been getting creative (any cheap recipe ideas out there?). I baked my own bread last week...

And bought a huge $4 frozen chicken that was on clearance, and have succesfully spread it into 3 meals (Chicken dinner, leftovers, and today is chicken noodle soup).

I don't mind getting creative with our groceries, eating isn't a huge deal to me. Coffee on the other hand? Huge. Huge deal. As my friend, Grace would say, where's the joy in living if I can't have my Iced Vanilla Latte? And I agree. But, we have gotten creative with our coffee budget as well (yes, we have a coffee budget) and have been making most of our yummy drinks on our home machine. Which is good. But, I miss my Gingersnap lattes.

What's that you say? Oh, that's right, my birthday is in a few days. What do I want for my birthday, you wonder? Well, here's a hint, it rhymes with Barbucks.

Oh Fiddlesticks
I'm having some technical difficulties here- I just lost heaps of pictures and videos (including "I want a Hippo for Christmas") and I can't figure out how to get my camera cord working again. Sigh.

This is happening amidst our craziest month- which I was really hoping to blog about, with pictures. But, alas, I'll just have to mention we had a great Thanksgiving/Nate's Homecoming celebration in the States this past weekend. We got to see lots of friends and family, a good time was had by all. Also, Kaitlyn actually slept in the hotel room (instead of, you know, crying all night), so I consider the whole trip a roaring success.

Our schedule is packed to the brim over the next week, but it's all fun stuff: games night tonight, visiting our friends that moved to our part of town (yay!) tomorrow, Nich's Dad is coming to town over the weekend, Eva and I's family birthday celebration dinner on Sunday...and Eva's birthday Tuesday, and mine on Wednesday.

We won't be bored! I'm looking forward to it all, December rocks.
