More potty talk
My darling Eva has a new-found 2-year old disgust for sharing. Like at the park today, she took a turn on the swing, then it was another girl's turn. As soon as Eva saw the other girl on the swing, she threw a full-on, terrible two's, screaming & flailing tantrum. Minorly embarrassing. We had to leave.

Being the smart, savvy Mommy that I am, I decide to take advantage of this new-found attitude in the potty training atmosphere. Up until this morning, Eva has refused to "go" on the big toilet. Only on her little potty. But, by gosh golly, if I'm going to potty train her, it's gonna be all the way. I don't want to be toting a little potty with me to the grocery store or the park, just because she refuses to use any other toilet. No siree bob.

So, to set the stage, Eva and I wander into the upstairs washroom because she never lets me pee alone. I've almost forgotten what it's like to be able to shut the door behind me and pee in peace. But anyways...

Me: (nonchalantly setting her Dora potty seat on the toilet) Mommy has to go potty, can Mommy go potty?

Eva: NO!

Me: But, it's Mommy's turn.

Eva: (inching towards the toilet) NO!

Me: Eva, Mommy needs a turn.

Eva: (launches herself over the toilet as if to claim it) NOO! Eva's turn.

Me: Well, ok, you can have a quick turn.

Eva: (Climbs up onto the stool and asks for help to sit on the potty...bwah ha ha ha my plan is working. She turns around to play with the "flusher") Flush flush flush...

Me: Eva, you can flush the toilet after you pee. You have to pee first, ok?

Eva: (thinks about it for a minute, then drumroll please....commences her first pee on the big toilet)

And that sums up my morning: success on the "big potty" and a big, fat tantrum at the park. Oh, and she didn't eat her Timbits at Tim Hortons. What's up with that?

A good day
Thank you for all your wonderful thoughts and ideas on the whole potty training deal. I almost threw in the towel yesterday, but I'm so glad I didn't, because today was amazing. She even started announcing when she has to go. And she seems to be really enjoying herself, which probably has more to do with the amount of praise we lavish on her than anything else. But it's great to see how excited she gets after she "goes". She jumps up and yells "Yay, I did it!"

We can thank Dora for that phrase.

But, yes, I am encouraged. This potty thing might just happen after all.

Potty Boot Camp

Day 5 of Potty Boot Camp here at the Braam household. It is intense. And looking forward to it being over. Here is a look at our past few days.

Day 1

I let Eva roam the house diaper-free for 1 hour in the morning, and from 3pm on. I sat her on the potty often, reading stories, playing Simon Says and so on. All in all, 3 accidents, and many successes when I sat her on the potty.

Day 2

Diaper-free all but 40 minutes. No accidents. Found the potty by herself all day long, and would only announce to us after she went that she needed a treat. We're on a roll...

Day 3

Diaper-free all day. 1 accident. Still going all by herself- but won't ever announce it to us, so I'm beginning to wonder what will happen when I put her pants and undies on. She is Miss Independent.

Day 4

Diaper-free morning and afternoon. 1 accident that happened when she couldn't find her potty (my fault, I should've put it where she could find it). For the evening, we put her in a pull-up. Turns out pull-ups don't really help the potty training process. She realized they were as convenient as diapers.

Day 5 (this morning)

I decide that it's high time she starts wearing clothes again, and cute little Dora undies. This does not work. 3 accidents, a large load of laundry, and a worn-out Mommy.

She's napping now, and I'm not really sure where to go from here. It's nice that she's pretty much potty-trained when she's bare-bottomed. But, um, I want my life back. And it seems like the pull-up idea reverts her back to her old ways- which I don't want to become a habit. So, I kinda feel stuck at home with a half-naked kid.

Sigh.

Any thoughts Supermoms?

The funny things she says
- There were toys strewn around the house this morning, and she started to dump out more. I told her it was clean up time, and she replied,"Ok! No problem." Ha!

- As she was strolling her baby doll around the house yesterday, I asked where she was going. Her reply? "Home Depot"

Her Daddy is proud.

- And the best one yet (she got this from her Dad, who says this when following behind me). Nich was heading downstairs, and Eva came toddling behind him. Halfway down the stairs, she yells really loud "NICE BUTT!"

Oh my.

33 weeks
I had my 33 week Doctor's appt yesterday (even though I'm officially 33 weeks tomorrow). Once again, he was very complimentary, calling me one of the "top stars" of his practice. I look forward to every appointment now, not only to listen to Baby Beans heartbeat, but all his compliments are a great day booster.

The heartbeat was 150 bpm, I'm measuring 3 cm bigger than 2 weeks ago, and everything else is looking great. Hows about that belly pic..

Oh, and whoever's shirt I'm wearing- I LOVE IT- thanks!!

Roxy Girl
I just discovered the Quicksilver outlet while down in the States this weekend. I almost bought everything. But, alas, I have a husband to report to, so I held back and bought just a few adorable pieces. Now Eva's rockin' the surfer girl look.

Girls just wanna have fun
I decided I want another girl. I figure since Nich wants a boy, it evens it out if I want a girl. Then we win both ways, right? Eva's been so cute lately, I've been hoping to have the same sort of fun with another daughter. In the morning, as I do my hair in the mirror, she'll scoot her little stool up beside me, grab a brush, and do her hair too. When I break out the makeup, she gets super excited, and asks for a turn. It's not too young for lipgloss is it?

She also loves playing with my jewelry- all the necklaces, bracelets and earrings (that I never wear anyway). She'll put them on herself and her baby dolls. Oh, and she discovered that Mr. Potato Head came with earrings too, and begged for me to put them on...

Girls are way too much fun! I want another one.

Jen tagged me with a meme, so I'll wrap it up with that.

10 things I've done that are pretty awesome

1 Succesfully got my husband addicted to Starbucks

2 Taught myself guitar (not that I'm any good)

3 Seen everywhere I've wanted to see in the world, and now only care to go back to Hawaii

4 Graduated high school and college with honours

5 "Adopted" a child named Cheribin from the Philippines
through World Vision

6 Spent the last 2 years with a cute little munchkin attached to me

7 Somehow broke the caffeine habit for the time being-
only 8 more weeks and I can have real espresso again

8 Married a fantastic guy

9 Scored a part-time, work-at-home job so I can stay home with
my cute little munchkin

10 Finished this list

Weekend Away
I'm refreshed. Nich and I went away for a wonderful weekend in Downtown Vancouver, thanks to a generous Christmas present from his work. We enjoyed a free stay in the Sheraton Wall Centre (and an uprade to a huge room!), and a huge Earl's gift certificate that bought us a delicious dinner and lunch the next day.

We also checked out Cafe Artigiono's just a few blocks from our hotel. They are famous for their latte art, and we got to see the baristas in action. It was amazing. They made Nich a latte with a fancy leaf picture, and a big heart for me. So sweet.

I always love coming back home to Eva after we've been away. She seems so much more grown up (even after 3o hours away- I know, i'm pathetic). She always amazes me with new words she's added to her vocabulary. And she always eats better after hanging out with Grandma and Papa. She even ate 3 bites of hot dog for dinner. The first meat I've got in her in weeks!

I'm feeling incredibly pregnant lately. And I still have 2 months to go. I always ask Nich to push me up when I need to get up from the couch, and stairs...ohmyword stairs...I feel so out of shape, but I'm always out of breath after one flight of stairs. I feel like I just ran a marathon. But, I'm not complaining! Oh no, this pregnancy is miraculously easy. I thank God every day for blessing me with such a pain-free pregnancy. I'm just hoping this is a sign for an easy upcoming delivery, and hey, why not an easy baby too? I've always wanted one of those. The ones that actually sleep a bit at night? Yes, we've ordered one of those this time. We'll see if God delivers.

Spanish Lessons with Eva
Eva: (playing with a toy car door) Abrir! Abrir!

Me: Are you speaking Spanish again?

Eva: Say Abrir!

Me: Huh?

Eva: Say Abrir! SAY ABRIR!

Me: Uh, ok, Abrir. What on earth does that mean?

Eva: Abrir, open door!

Sigh. She's way smarter than me.

Baby Bean and New House pics
As usual, the Doctor's appointment went fantastic. And I left feeling like Super Pregnant Woman. My Dr. is always so complimentary. He says my pregnancy is textbook perfect, that my body shape was made to carry babies perfectly, that I'm the ideal case for the nursing students to study, and that I'll have no problem delivering because I'm healthy, the pregnancy is going so smooth, and I have good skin (ha! i don't know what that had to do with anything, but i really don't have nice skin).

Anyways, he really knows how to butter me up. I always look forward to the next appointment. I don't remember what I measure, but it's right on target. And the heartbeat was 146bpm. I go back again in 2 weeks. This is the homestretch, baby!

In fantastic house news, the showhome at the townhouse development we bought at, is for sale on mls.ca. What does this mean? Pictures!! This is the exact floor plan/colours that ours is...

The kitchen- stainless steel appliances, way
more cupboard space, and a gas range. Wheeeeee.

The living room (ours has a big bay window)

The den area off the kitchen

The Dining Room (view from the living room) and check
out the stair rails. The reason I fell in love with the house.

The ensuite- two important words.
Double Sinks

I am SO excited I can barely contain myself, the house is so beautiful. And I'm so happy to finally have pictures so I can get my decorating/furniture configuration all decided pre-moving. Happy day!

Sold
Our house is officially sold. It is so great to have the whole selling/buying process over with. Now, just the whole moving thing... We were aiming for end of April, but the buyers wanted a bit earlier, so we're moving April 19th. Mark your calendars! We're going to need all the help we can get. As we'll probably have a one week old baby around then.

Craziness.

Sometimes I wonder why we signed up for all this stress. But, I have faith it will all work out. Nich said he would do all the work of packing/moving/unpacking anyway. He's so good like that.

Let's see, our weekend was pretty fun. Our friends, Darin, Deanna and their baby Daisy came up from the States. And Deanna and I filled the freezer with Shepard's Pie and Wonton soup (for when the baby comes). Here we are wrapping those fancy wontons..

Did you watch the Superbowl? I was all stoked for it, brought home stuff to make gourmet chicken nachos, and my favourite ice cream (Heavenly Hash). And then at the first commercial break, I realized that I was in fact in the WRONG COUNTRY for enjoying my favourite part of the Superbowl- the commercials. Absolutely ridiculous. Next time I'm totally inviting myself down to the States for someone's Superbowl party.

Well, in a few hours I have my 30 week Doctor appointment. Yay! I'll be sure to update with any news and a belly pic.
