Saturday fun
Our old vacuum (graciously given to me by my Dad quite a few years ago) recently bit the dust. We hemmed and hawed over how to replace it. Nich really wanted to install a Central Vac, and I was really hoping for a Dyson. I have heard from friends of their amazing cleaning power, and their commercials on t.v. made it look pretty enticing too.

So, we took a trip out to Future Shop, and not only were they clearing last year's model out, there was an 'Open Box' return for an even sweeter deal. We ended up saving almost 50% off the asking price. I love a good deal, so I couldn't be any happier.

Well, I thought I couldn't be any happier, until I came home and tried out the vacuum. The carpet literally changed colours before my eyes as I vacuumed, from a dingy, worn beige to a crisp, bright beige. Unbelievable. This vacuum is a miracle worker.

Oh, and don't look too close, the canister is embarrasingly full of dust, dirt, hair and cheerios. I can't believe that was all on my carpet a few hours ago. I will never turn back, I am a Dyson believer.

Anyways, since this was Saturday 'family fun day', and it's all rainy out, we decided to treat our girls to a trip to Toys 'R Us, and let Eva pick out a toy. With Nich's gentle persuasion, Eva picked out this awesome marble tower toy, that we both incidentally alway wanted as children. She has played with it almost non-stop since we got home. Hours of fun for all.

(apologies for the flourescent-ness of the photo. I have no idea what I'm doing with my camera, I just try different settings, at different numbers and see what happens)

During nap-time I made chocolate chip meal cookies (made me remember the Dykstras, how the heck are you guys?) Then, Kaitlyn woke up, and had some good quality Daddy time.

Then, we made a Manicotti masterpiece...

(I think this time my camera fiddling worked a bit more in my favour. Now, if only I can remember what I did)

And lounged around some more, watching Beverly Hills Chihuahua, eating more cookies, and popcorn. And Kaitlyn got comfy and enjoyed a bottle...

We ended the family fun day with a bubble bath for the girls, and a snack time.

And, that was our Saturday. Good food, good fun. How was yours?

The sleep factor
Kaitlyn has been sleeping like a miracle baby. For the last 4 nights, she's either slept through the night (waking up for the day around 6:30am) or she'll wake up to eat around 5:30 and then happily goes back to sleep until 7:30. I can't decide which I like better. It's nice that she's able to sleep through the night, but I really don't mind feeding her at 5:30, if that means we all get to sleep in a bit more.

Anyways, it's been nice. And I'm soaking it up for all it's worth, and enjoying every second of middle-of-the-night sleep, because I know it won't last. I'm fighting quite the stubborn cold, which means very soon, I'll have two sick kids (despite all the maniac hand-washing). And, well, my kids don't sleep when they're sick. They require around-the-clock care, rocking, singing and cuddling, even if they just have a stuffy nose.

So, I just wanted to blog, for the record, that I got 4 good nights of sleep in a row. So, that next week, when I can barely keep my eyes open, and my head is pounding from sleep deprivation, I have proof that everything is just a phase. And it won't be long until we all will sleep through the night again.

For this I am thankful
-My girls are snug in their beds, taking their afternoon naps

-Eva had gymnastics this morning, she LOVES gymnastics

-It stopped raining yesterday, so we got to take the kids to the park

-Eva LOVES the park

-The lady at Starbucks this morning remembered me and my drink

-We've been saving for 7 months for a new work truck for Nich. We got an amazing deal on his dream truck over the weekend. And the dealership just called, and offered to install a complimentary bed liner. He's in heaven.

-Kaitlyn is so cute and happy.

-We finally got a new phone that has a ringer volume, so it won't wake Kaitlyn up from her nap when it rings. This is huge.

and the finale..

-I have a new nephew!!!

Couch conversation
This morning, Eva snuggled up to me on the couch and announced:

"You're my Best Friend, Mommy! You know how much I love you?"

She proceeded to lift her arms high in the air...

"THIS MUCH!"

Kaitlyn
A little bit about Kaitlyn:

-She says "Momma" 500 times a day

-The only thing she loves more than her Momma is her crib.

-She loves bananas

-She only plays with 'big-girl' toys

-She gives the biggest hugs and snuggles

-She loves unfolding the laundry I just folded

-She bops up and down when Eva dances to music

-She loves pulling Eva's pigtails

-She eats like a pig

-She rarely sleeps through the night, but I don't mind.

-She is way easier to take pictures of than her big sister. She sits still.

Supersize my weekend, please
We had a lovely weekend. When Nich and I really want to feel like we're having an extra long, relaxing weekend- we do a fun little getaway on Friday night. (Side note: we call this "Supersizing our weekend" because we arrive home early Saturday afternoon, with so much fun and relaxation under our belts, that we feel like the weekend must be over aready- when in fact it has just begun. You should really try it sometime.)

So, on Friday, we booked a suite at the Wall Centre in Vancouver, I packed while the kids took their afternoon nap. Nich came home from work a 1/2 hour early (3:00), we threw our bags in the car and left for our mini-vacation.

The girls had their own room, and Eva is always thrilled to be staying in a "tall tower". She was also thrilled that her blow-up giraffe made a reappearance from it's long winter slumber- for a trip to the indoor pool.

I was thrilled with our new tradition of eating-in Sushi and Vietnemese Iced Coffee. And we also randomly met up wih Nich's cousin, so I got to go on a downtown shopping spree with her on Friday night.

Nich was thrilled that his boss (also staying at the Wall Centre that night) surprised us ith a visit and a bottle of wine.

And Kaitlyn, well, she's always happy. Especially when playing with her Daddy's shoes.

As it turns out, I have a lot to learn about my camera- and Photoshop for that matter. One day, I really do hope I have time to take a photography class, or online tutorial or something. But, time? What's that? I'm pretty sure that's something I had when there was only one child in the house.

And, that's all for now. Little Miss Kaitlyn is awake from her nap, and I have bread to bake.

Loved
I was having a bad day. And my poor, sweet husand had to endure phone call after phone call from me, whining about how the kids were so sick, and there was poo everywhere, and nobody was napping, and how disappointed I was that the house wasn't cleaning itself. The last time I called him, I asked him to pick up some medicine for Kaitlyn on his way home. And he called from the store shortly after to make sure he was picking up the right thing.

Over an hour later, he swaggered up the stairs with a proud grin on his face, and a mysterious bag in his hands. He admitted that he bought more than just medicine on his way home... he had an I-love-you gift for me. Then, he handed me this

I let out a high-pitched squeal, thanked him profusely, and totally forgot about my bad day.

What a man.

And what a camera!

Here's me and my new baby (my other 'baby' is turning one next month...sniffle)

It takes some really sweet pictures. And it was so great to fiddle with those pictures in Photoshop (Jen, you rock)- and make them look even prettier.

Side note: Can you believe it's snowing here again? It's March!

And another of my almost not-a-baby-anymore...

And many more pictures to come! I am so excited, I've wanted a "real" camera for a couple years now, and my husband, well he spoils me. I'm so loved.

Daddy's Little Helper
Kaitlyn is a curious little monkey these days (I am really starting to miss Kaitlyn-the-blob). A few nights ago, she crawled up to the dishwasher and started helping her Daddy unload it...

(Don't worry, I put away all the knives first)

It's March already?
It seems like last fall we started getting busy, and it hasn't yet stopped. Nich and I ask each other all the time these days, "How did we get so busy?" And we still aren't sure.

This past weekend was another fun one, packed full of activities. We got to go to our friends' wedding- and one of the most fun receptions I've ever been do. And yesterday was my Dad's birthday, so we ate lots of yummy food, played games and celebrated.

And in Kate-kins news, not only is she now crawling, she is into everything. She even climbs stairs already- which I only have Eva to thank. Because everytime I catch Kaitlyn in the act, there is Eva right next to her cheering her on and showing her how to do it.

Sigh.

I love these girls, I just wish they napped longer, so I can blog once in awhile. You know?

How abouts some pictures from last Friday. We walked to the pond to say hi to the ducks and geese...

It was a beautiful, sunny day.

Then, we came home and I made a play-fort for them to enjoy while I made lunch.

They had so much fun. And, I had a blast listening to them giggle and play together.
