Eva's first road trip
I haven't posted in awhile because I am a bit exhausted. We had a fun, busy weekend. But, Eva becomes a monster baby when too much fun and busy happen all at once.

Early Saturday morning, we packed up the car and headed off across a ferry to surprise Nich's Mom. It was an awesome. The sun was out, we took a stroll down to the ocean. And it was great to spend some time with her.

The ferry-ride back home made life interesting. It was delayed, so our hopes of Eva's bedtime being somewhat on time, were crushed. So she didn't get much sleep that night, which makes for an INTERESTING day the next day. She has tantrumed more times than i can count. And also has decided that she will only eat:

-cheese
-crackers
-cat food

Yes, cat food. She found where I keep the cat food. And I found her with the bag ripped open, chowing down on it.

Eww.

Well, I am hoping today is a bit more normal. Unfortunately two seconds ago, she decided to randomly start crying and flailing again. Why? I don't know. But I guess I should go.

Power Walker
I'll just be doing the dishes, and out of the corner of my eye, I'll see Eva toddle on by like she's been walking for months. It's crazy!

And SO COOL!

Although, does this mean I will have to buy her real shoes? No more cute fuzzy wuzzy slippers?

Ohhhhh my baby is growing up...

Home Sweet Home
We got the keys, we moved in, and we're even unpacked. This place rocks even more than I thought it would. And, wow, what a difference it makes not having Eva's crib five feet away from our bed. We all sleep better. She has slept 12 1/2 hours at night since we got here. And that, my friend, is a record.

So, here are some pics. Only of the main floor, cuz I was too lazy to go upstairs.

In other news, if you are trying to call me, our phone still isn't set up. Yes, I know it rings, and yes, I know there is no voicemail message, and no, I am not ignoring you or screening my calls. Telus is just slow, and we won't be hooked up until at least Monday afternoon.

And in Eva news, she is officially walking. She woke up this morning, and decided crawling is for babies. It's pretty rad. I should take pictures. Maybe next post.

almost walking
I just counted nine steps! She doesn't just walk to Mommy and Daddy anymore. Now, she'll walk halfway across a room, just to grab a toy. And yesterday, in the waiting room (yes, we got the dreaded shots), she wiggled out of my lap, and walked over to the big kids playing on the slide. It was so cute.

This is our very last day in the apartment. I am ecstatic. I am so done here, I even dreamed about our "car neighbour" last night. Seriously, everytime we have a "car neighbour" in a parking garage, they are always ginourmous. At our last condo, we parked next to one of those huge 4x4 trucks, with those tires that are almost as tall as me. No joke. This time, I was happy to see that our "car neighbour" was a car- not a truck. But, it turns out that old Cadillacs take up just as much parking space as big 4x4 trucks.

Boo.

Then, that "car neighbour" moved, and the second largest car I have seen in my life started parking next to us. Honest, she parks next to an SUV and her humungous car sticks out a good foot past the SUV. I didn't know cars could be bigger than SUV's. C'mon people! I want a Mini as my car neighbour.

Ok, enough complaining. This is the last day I will have to do an eight-point turn to get into my parking spot.

moving
Boxes boxes everywhere. Yes, Friday is the magical moving day. And, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed because:

a) it's snowing. moving in the snow = no fun.
b) i've been furiously changing our address with businesses all morning. and i'm still only halfway done.
c) eva is sick again
d) eva is supposed to get her one year shots tomorrow. yes, shots on top of being sick. should i cancel them? or would that be wussing out. i hate putting things off. but moving + sick baby + horrible shots = in over my head and one unhappy baby

Townhouse Update
Thanks ya'll for "delurking". I am so flattered that all you lovely people read my blog.

And now on to super exciting news. Hold your breath. Drumroll please.

We are moving in six days! Wahooey!

I'm just a little excited. We started this moving process last April, we sold our beloved condo in June, and we've been living in this teeny apartment ever since. Did I mention that Eva has been living in a closet? A walk-in closet that is. I think she'll be more than happy to get her own room.

We toured our house again last night (we drive out there every other day), and this time I brought the camera. So here are some pictures to feast your eyes on.

Our beautiful, wonderful kitchen

Living Room (view from Kitchen/Dining Room)

Eva's bathroom ,complete with a window

Master Bath's HUGE shower

And the best part, our walk-in closet.
This picture really doesn't do it justice. It's big.

Favourite Coffee
It's National Delurking Week...what does this mean to you? If you're reading this - you will bring happiness and joy to Eva and I, if you leave a comment.

And hey, let's make it fun and easy.

What's your favourite Starbucks drink?

(Mine is a Short Latte with a splash of coffee cream. Simple and Delicious.)

fridge farm
The best invention ever: the Leapfrog Fridge Farm. While it was sitting, wrapped underneath the Christmas tree, I told Nich I had high hopes for that toy. He laughed as I explained how I was dreaming of being able to cook and clean the kithen for hours, uninterrupted by Eva who would be fascinated with her little red barn complete with magnetic farm animals.

I have not been let down.

Since that magical Christmas morning, Eva has been joyfully entertained in the kitchen while her Mommy is being a good housewife. It moos, it sings, it even teaches her about each animal.

I think this is the best toy ever invented. Not only am I going to have a smart kid (she will surely know her barnyard animals by 18 months), but my kitchen is sparkling!

Ice Skating
me: We should do something insanely fun tonight, like go ice skating.
my canadian husband: We don't own skates.
me: We'll rent them.
my canadian husband: (Laughs) Rent them?! You can't rent ice skates. Everyone owns there own skates.
me: Dude, you can rent skates! It's the same thing as going bowling. You rent bowling shoes.
my canadian husband: This is Canada! Everyone owns skates. No one owns bowling shoes.
me: What?!?! People own bowling shoes. I bet the same amount of people own skates as bowling shoes.

So, Canada, is it true? No skate rentals at the rink? Is it true that all Canadians own their own skates? And does anyone out there own their own bowling shoes??

5 things
I've been tagged by Jennifer to make a list of 5 things you might not know about me. Hmmm.

1. I own lip plumper. I love plump lips. Angelina Jolie rocks.

2. I own skater shoes and Uggs. That's it. Three pairs of skater shoes and one pair of Uggs. Oh, and one pair of sandals. I have also been known to wear slippers to weddings.

3. I've never bought a dress for my daughter. What can i say, we're a casual family.

4. Since I've had my driver's license, I've owned 10 cars, crashed 4 of them, and 2 of them had the steering wheel on the right side of the car (bought in New Zealand).

5. I've hugged a Kangaroo. Actually, it was a Wallaroo. Halfway between a Kangaroo and a Wallaby. He just hopped right up and hugged me. It was cute. I want one.

I'm gonna tag Mrs. Wilson and Chelsey. Have fun!

Going to the Pool
After being stuck in the house for so long with sniffles and coughs, we have been looking forward to getting healthy and doing something fun and exciting. So, last night, we decided to go to the pool. And even though the waterslide was closed, we still had fun and met a million and a half other babies Eva's age. She got to play rubber ducky with them, and steal their toys. She is such a bully. She even scratched Caleb on the face yesterday afternoon during an intense play session.

Oh Eva.

At least she looks darling in her bathing suit.

quick update
Eva is back to her normal self. She still has a cough, and a stuffy nose. But, she is back exploring and getting into everything from toilet water to the stereo.

In other news, very very exciting news, we will be moving into our townhouse in 16 days. It can't come soon enough. I am tired of living in this shady apartment, where people back their cars into our truck, and throw walnuts at me (true story! the walnut missed me and dented the roof of our car).

Well, Eva just slammed our bedroom door shut. She is stuck inside. I shall go.

Huggles and Snuggles
We spent New Years Eve in the Emergency Room. Thankfully everything is ok. Here's the story.

Our baby girl caught a bad cold, and it took a crazy turn for the worse yesterday afternoon. She became inconsolable, screaming without ceasing. She had a fever, and hadn't eaten anything all day. She started vomiting everywhere. And then she would cough and start choking. And wouldn't breathe for a few seconds. It was scary. We started calling around, trying to find an open Walk-in clinic to take her to. There were none open- it was New Years Eve.

We tried to put her in the tub- that always calms her down. She just screamed harder. So we put her pajamas on, and held her, still screaming. Then the scariest thing happened. Her eyes started rolling back into her head, and she would become limp. We yelled her name, trying to get her to "come to" again. I started furiously packing the diaper bag, and we ran off to the hospital.

Long story short, we were at the Emergency Room for over five hours. Eva thankfully fell asleep in our arms while we waited for a Doctor. She had X-rays done of her chest, and it turned out she has an infection in her lower chest.

Today she is doing a lot better, she definitely is up and down though. She's still having a hard time sleeping, because her cough wakes her up constantly. Then she cries, and we rock her, and she falls asleep for a little while longer.

As heartbreaking as it is having a sick baby (and frightening for first-time parents), I am enjoying all the huggles and snuggles I am getting from her. My poor baby, though. It's so hard to see her go through all this. She has been sick many times before, but never like this. I hope she's better soon.
