Dinosaur Adventure
Last time I was at Dino Town, I was maybe 6 years old, and I believe it was called "Flintstone Park". I assumed that Nich had never been there (being from Terrace and all), but apparently their family made the long road trip twice!

So, needless to say, we were pretty excited to go experience Dino Town all over again, through the eyes of our little Eva. She enjoyed the oversized Dino slide, the Treehouse and all its stairs (that's her new obsession- stairs), and she even ate french fries! I know, miracle.

It was a great afternoon, but I must say, I'm exhausted!

Happy Braam Day
In this family, every birthday, anniversary, and Christmas fall in November and December. Which makes for a very festive, party-ful two months. But, halfway through the year we start to miss the balloons, cake, presents and family get-togethers. So, last year we decided that at the end of June, every year, we would make our own holiday: Braam Day. Complete with balloons, presents for Eva, and Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cake.

Twas a fantastic day.

Hi 5

Eva's second favourite tv show (Dora wins top spot, of course) is a high-energy, singing & dancing kids show called Hi-5.

She giggles, twirls and dances her little heart out during this show. Here's a pic of a super-excited, dancing Eva as her show started this morning.

Espresso Talk
If I wasn't an espresso addict before, I am now. My brother and his wife so kindly brought my Rancilio Silvia up from the States for me (thank. you. so. much). I think I am indebted to them forever.

So, I know you want to know how my barista experience has been thus far. The Rancilio Silvia is known to be a very finicky machine. This is because, unlike other machines in its class, it doesn't have a pressurized portafilter (which is kind of a cheater way to get espresso with crema). This requires more skill from the barista. Everything has to be right: grind setting, dose, tamp, heck I'm even learning how to temperature surf my machine so there is one less variable that can mess up my shots.

Have I achieved the perfect espresso shot, you ask? Almost.

I can get a shot that fits the golden rule (2 oz. in 20-28 seconds). And I've seen more crema than I ever thought possible from a home machine. I am still working on consistency though. I won't bore you with any more details, but this is where temperature surfing Miss Silvia comes in.

Oh, what fun. I am having so much fun!

And if you stuck with me that long, you must love espresso. You should come over and enjoy some with me.

My Rancilio Silvia

It is so beautiful...

isn't it?

Looking at it makes my heart flutter in joy and anticipation for SATURDAY, when it will arrive and become a welcome part of our family.

I can't wait.

My taste buds can't wait.

And, my wallet can't wait. Our daily Starbucks runs are a tad on the expensive side.

My Little Bookworm

Eva loves reading. She's happy to sit on the couch, next to her bookshelf, and read book after book all evening long. Lately she has started "reading" to me. She'll look at the page, then look up at me and go,

"bah gurb ra buga trr boorg doo di"

Then she'll turn the page, look up at me, and read some more. It's hilarious.

The Barratte

Today something amazing happened. A barrette stayed in Eva's hair for more than 0.5 seconds.

And if you think it was just a fluke- let me tell you...great thought, preparation, patience, and diligence went into this event. Here's how it all went down:

Me: Eva, do you want to get pretty with Mommy?
Eva: (Blank stare)
Me: (Plop Eva on the bathroom counter in front of the big mirror) Ooooo, look, Mommy is putting a pretty barrette in her hair. WOW, Mommy is pretty now. Does Eva want a pretty barrette in her hair?
Eva: (Blank stare)
Me: Let's put a pretty barrette in Eva's hair. Ooooo, Eva is so pretty with a pretty barrette in her hair!
Eva: (Rips the pretty barrette out of her hair)
Me: (I'm not giving up- no way- no how- not giving up) Mommy is going to put another pretty barrette in her hair! Wow! Mommy has a yellow and a blue barrette in her hair. Now she's really pretty. Does Eva want a pretty barrette in her hair?
Eva: (Smiles)
Me: Let's put a pretty blue barrette in your hair. Wow, Eva, look in the mirror! You're so pretty with a pretty barrette in your hair!

And it stayed in. And it's still in. It's a miracle. Either that or I'm SUPER MOM.

Vacation

That beautiful paradise you see to the left? Yup, that's the five star, all-inclusive resort we will be staying at in Mexico in September.

I know! September! So far away!

Well, that's what we get for mailing Nich's passport application in. There's an expected 3-4 month wait. Boy, if I knew then, what I know now. We could've had it in a month.

Oh well, this paradise will be well worth the wait. Room service is included, there are palm trees and beach beds. Scrumptious food, and a Jaccuzzi on the deck of our room. Ohh, the luxury. I can't wait.
