Day 1

At 5:55 PM,
Yeah...pull ups are a big waste of money. Daisy did the same thing. I just finally had to let her go without anything but panties and regular clothes. (except at night) It took about two weeks before she realized that she wasn't getting her diapers back and that going to the bathroom in her panties wasn't too comfortable. After that she had a few accidents every once in a while (only because she would be playing with her toys and didn't want to stop to use the bathroom), but that didn't happen too much. You just have to be patient for a little while and she will get it. Hopefully once the baby comes, she doesn't go back to having accidents. I heard that it is pretty common for an older sibling to have accidents once a new baby is born. (for attention) That happened to one of my friends here in NC, and she had a really hard time with that. But actually, I don't think that she started potty training until after the baby was born, so anyway, hope that doesn't happen to you. Just be patient, it will happen sooner than you think. Good luck!
At 6:03 PM,
Oh yeah, don't feel like you have to be stuck at home. Just take some extra clothes with you for Eva whenever you go out, and make sure wherever you go, you know where the nearest bathroom is. ;-) If you don't have waterproof pads to put on your car seat, put a garbage bag down, then a towel on top it in case she decides to wet her pants in the car. Hey, accidents happen.
At 7:36 PM, Bloggy Mama
At 3:15 AM,
No diapers or anything that feels like diapers - you need to be 'with the program', so best not to confuse her - only clothes - encourage her to go every time you go, which includes before you go out - she'll get the hang of it - figure out where public bathrooms are in stores - carry an extra set of clothes/wipes - any then there is always "motivation" such as stickers or something she loves, when she is successful....they need to figure it out themselves, ya can't push it......but hey!! they all learn sooner or later...
PS - are you and Nich going to Terrace for his grandma's 80th birthday on June 20th?? Joanne

i'm thinking of you and hoping eva gets into the hang of it for your sake! good comments so far, and i've obviously never potty trained anyone before, nor do i know much about it yet, but if she's anything like me it will only take having an accident or two in public to be embarassed and realise going on the potty instead of in her undies is something she needs to do to stay dry and comfortable.
a friend of mine was potty training her daughter awhile ago and i remember her daughter getting the hang of it really fast at the beginning but then realising she actually liked the feeling of warm wet undies! gross.
At 12:28 PM,
Haha - speaking of taking extra clothes with you when you go out, sometimes it pays to take 2 sets! We went to Costco the other day and Aaron announced he had to go when we were the farthest possible away from the bathroom. Needless to say we didn't make it. He needed his spare clothes. No problem. We went and changed. Off to the next store. We made it into the front door at Macy's when he announced again he had to go. Ok, the men's bathroom was right there so Nate decided to take him - big adventure for a guy who hasn't been around through much of the training so far. Well, Aaron made it to the toilet no problem, but Nate accidentally dropped Aaron's foot into the toilet bowl. Yuck!!! Sopping, germy, wet shoe and pants! And I didn't have any more extra clothes. If it were just me we would have headed over to Old Navy and bought him a new outfit, but we had Nate there to save us some $. haha. Isn't this fun??
Aaron rarely announces it either. Especially if he's busy playing or what-not. At first I had to physically take him to the bathroom every half hour to make sure he went. Now he can go for an hour or 2 without having to go, but he still doesn't announce it. I have to be on top of it. A friend of mine has a 3 year old who still finds it more convenient to go in the diaper. She had to buy a "potty watch" that goes off every half hour to remind him (probably more for her) to take him to the bathroom. I think we're still a long ways off from them taking full charge of it. :)
